背景介绍 This gene encodes a protein that belongs to the microtubule-associated protein family. The proteins of this family are thought to be involved in microtubule assembly, which is an essential step in neurogenesis. The products of similar genes in rat and mouse are neuron-specific cytoskeletal proteins that are enriched in dentrites, implicating a role in determining and stabilizing dentritic shape during neuron development. 生物功能 The exact function of MAP2 is unknown but MAPs may stabilize the microtubules against depolymerization. They also seem to have a stiffening effect on microtubules. [UniProt]

    Western blot: Rat brain (whole), Rat brain (embryonic, E20), Rat spinal cord and Mouse brain lysates stained with ARG11033 anti-MAP2ab antibody [5H11] (green) at 1:10000 dilution.

    A band at about 280 kDa corresponds to full length MAP2A and MAP2B protein. MAP2A/B is expressed heavily in brain particularly in cortical regions, but is a more minor component of spinal cord.
